With a tournament title to start, the men’s basketball team has a promising season ahead. Having lost eight seniors from last season, this year’s team is composed mostly of underclassmen.

Varsity consists of three freshmen: Naman Patel, Anderson Mort, and Kiran Ramakumar, and three sophomores: Jack Null, Sebastian Quintana, and Addison Mort.

The team also includes a sizeable group of six juniors: Ben Davis, Jacob Rosquist, Ben Deitch, Amar Tull, Akash Sanan, and Nick Rosquist and, lastly, one senior, David Castillo, make up the team.

Sole senior and point guard, David Castillo hopes to use his experience on the court to help assist his teammates.

In addition to facilitating offensive drives on the court, he also serves as a leader for the team.

Freshman Naman Patel said, “David is a real role model. He always keeps us positive and motivated on the court.”

Sophomore Addison Mort is also looking to help lead the team to success. After an excellent freshman season, Mort is feeling confident in his abilities.

Mort said, “I want to work on getting more rebounds because I struggled with that last year. I also want to continue scoring at the same frequency that I have thus far.”

Perhaps the team’s greatest weapon, Junior Nick Rosquist, is already turning heads with his commendable skills. During the Boyd Baker tournament, Rosquist put up 40 plus shots in multiple games, and even broke the school’s record when he scored 48 points in a single game.

Their schedule for the upcoming weeks consists of games against teams such as San Tan Foothills, Tanque Verde, and Baboquivari.

Baboquivari is ranked first in the division in preseason polls, and the boys are ready for a big game.
