Mock Trial, a popular activity at The Gregory School, is back and in full-swing.

The upcoming spring will be full of lengthy practices, stressful preparations, and of course, competitions.

The teams will compete at the regional competition on Saturday, February 20.

The teams were given a case back in November and have been working to learn both sides of the case and strategize for their simulated trial.

The case is a civil case based on the tazing of an innocent person and the resulting controversy.

There are three teams this year, for the first time. Usually, there have only been two teams.

Each team is composed of six members and the members are chosen based on experience and skill.

The silver team, which contains first year participants, is composed mostly of underclassmen.

Members include Josh Heroes, Ari Williams, Brett Meggersee, Charles Chen, and Charlotte Dehoop.

Dehoop, a freshman, said, “My first year on Mock Trial has been great so far! The team works together well. Everyone is so supportive, and the more experienced/older people on the team have been so nice and helpful.”

The blue team is the second, slightly more advanced team.

Members include captains Asha Ramakumar and Dhruv Patel, Yoni Wiener, Nina Armstrong, Chloe Goorman, and Lily Cate Smith. There is a variety of experience between the members, and it makes for a good team.

Asha Ramakumar, a senior, said, “There’s a great balance of personalities on the team. Therefore, regardless of time spent or experience, we are able to progress well together.”

The most elite team is the white team. The members, Eric Johnson, Grace He, Natalie Armstrong, Caitlin McCormick, and co-captains Karam Katariya and Ben Showard all possess the debating skills and courtroom acumen necessary to win.

Showard, a senior, said, “With our leadership, this team will reach heights it has never been before.” The team has high hopes for success.

Depending on their performance at regionals, the white team may compete at the State Tournament on March 19th in Phoenix.
