Junior Caitlin McCormick won second place at the Arizona State Poetry Out Loud competition held at the Arizona PBS  studios at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism in Phoenix on March 11.

The Poetry Out Loud “season” begins with competitions in classrooms across the Gregory School campus, the larger southern region, the state of Arizona, and the entire country.

Of course, no one was worried about McCormick’s performance at the classroom and schoolwide levels.

Dominating both her English block’s competition and the entire upper school’s performance, she beautifully spoke her hand-selected poems from the plethora available on the Poetry Out Loud website.

This year, McCormick selected new poems, and she was determined to make sure they met her high standards of poetic language:

“I am honestly obsessed with poetry. I was very passionate about it before I did the program, and I really admire the fact that Poetry Out Loud essentially sort of strives to revitalize for American youth. It is great to be a part of that.”
